Meet Fernanda Campos De Medeiros from Brazil
Q & A
My name is Fernanda, and I’m from Brazil. I’m here in Atlanta with my son Gianluca to conduct some experiments for my doctorate.
I’m 36 years old and live with my husband, 9-year-old son, my two dogs, Floki and Bionda, and my two cats, Brida and Scar.
I’m passionate about animals and especially love dogs. Floki accompanies me wherever I can take him, especially on nature adventures.
My favorite thing to do is travel and discover new places. I also love outdoor activities, such as hiking, mountain biking, and camping.
When I’m at home, I enjoy watching movies, reading, and cooking.
Question:
What do you miss most about your home country while living abroad?
Answer:
I’m passionate about my family and my pets. So, more than missing my country, I miss my home. Going on family trips and outings, or being with my pets.
Question:
What brought you to Atlanta?
Answer:
I have a degree in Biological Sciences and am pursuing a doctorate in Brazil in Physiology, more specifically in Cardiovascular Physiology. I currently work with hypertension and intracranial pressure, and Emory has an interesting model of hypertension, the Salt Sensitive model. Conducting experiments here will greatly contribute to my studies and discoveries.
Question:
How did you first hear about Villa International, and what made you choose to stay here?
Answer:
An Emory professor who visited my university in Brazil commented on Villa, saying it was a place highly recommended by students. I researched it and realized it would be great to live in a community, especially being alone with my son in the United States. It’s great to have so many people around me who can support me and help make my goals possible.
Question:
Do you have a favorite memory or moment from your time at Villa so far?
Answer:
This is my second time at Villa (I spent a month here last year), and the best thing was arriving this year and reuniting with people I already knew and seeing the changes they’ve undergone during this time.
Question:
What are your next steps—whether in your studies, career, or travels?
Answer:
My next step here in the United States is to finish my experiments and complete my doctorate later this year. After that, I plan to continue at Emory as a postdoctoral fellow.
Therefore, I plan to bring my husband and pets to Atlanta and make this incredible city my home.
Although I love to travel, I don’t have a specific destination yet. But before the end of the year, I plan to return to Brazil and enjoy a trip to the beach.
